So I commit to get fit, I stop drinking booze, I sign myself up to a challenge and then have a boys surfing weekend. What could possibly go wrong...
It started so well, a breakfast in Honiton. Scrambled egg on toast. And then it all went downhill fast; faster than me falling off my longboard. Pre-surf luzocade, followed by post surf pasty and can of coke. Beer and crisps pre the campsite bbq. 2.5 cheese burgers in baps followed, tried for 3 but couldnt quite finish it. Washed down with another Doombar.
Next morning, just a breakfast bar before an early surf, trying to beat the crowds at Saunton. But it was heaving before 9. Again pre-surf bottle of the orange fizzy sugary drink, followed by pasty and hot chocolate once the surfing was complete. Then more crisps sat around the camp site. Before embarking on a three course meal at the Manor in Croyde.
I never have a three course meal. I usually prefer the starter to the desert. But with just the feable excuse that everyone else was having one I caved in and on top of the chicken wings, battered cod and chips I had a chocolate brownie with ice cream, washed down with an Alantic ale.
Why? I knew I didnt want anymore food before the desert. I didnt even finish the large piece of battered cod. So why oh why did I force down a brownie. As good as it was, I regretted it instantly.
I needed a walk after dinner, I didnt sleep with indegestion. Had a splitting headache in the morining. What was by body telling me....give me some proper food....a small piece of fruit, some nuts and don't leave the salad.
A great weekend was had with some fantastic chilled mates. But the morale of the story is - if I want to get fit then I need to build up some will power, not just in the gym but in the kitchen, pub, restaurant, bbq, at work...
Better get myself organised and cook some decent food this week.
